Started the day with a flat front tire. My front tire had over 4,000 miles on it. The Texas roads had taken their toll on the tire. I thought I would try to make it to St. Augustine  and replace it when I got home. I noticed that it had developed a slow leak a few days ago. I had dodged through some glass going through Tallahassee and thought I would be lucky if I did not get a flat. Sure enough when Royce pulled Ruby out of the trailer this morning she had a flat. Once the flat was repaired I was on my way nice an early. It is nice to ride and feel a little bit of cool breeze. It does not take long in Florida to became very hot and humid. The entire ride was on Hwy 90. The road was quiet and went through a couple of nice little towns. We got into the hotel around 1 pm. We headed for the pool around 2:30 and by 3:00 thunder and lightning had moved into the area and a light rain started to fall. We had just enough pool time before the rain started. One thing about it, every morning the skies are clear again and we are able to get our rides in.

Kountze TX to DeRidder LA May 15, 2015 85 Miles Our daily routines have been serving us well. Many days ago be bumped our ride time up to sunrise. It seems our greatest hope of avoiding being drenched from afternoon thunderstorms is to set out as early as possible. We have a least avoided most of the heavy rain by doing this. We have our breakfast in the hotel room every morning. Rotating through a few hot breakfast cereals and protein shakes has worked well. We have gotten very efficient with moving our portable house in and out of hotel rooms. We were both excited for today because we were leaving Texas and crossing into Louisiana. A state line crossing is always exciting. Personally I have seen enough of Texas and yes there is a lot of Texas to see. I have been looking forward to seeing some greenery. Kerrville TX to Dripping Springs TX May 9 ,2015 75 miles The maneuvering of routes and lodging actually ended up putting us closer to our rest day city of Austin. Since we could not camp at Pedernales State Park as we had planned, we decided to ride to Dripping Springs TX. The only problem was, Dripping Springs had very limited lodging and none available for this day. Dripping Springs is only about 30 miles from Austin. Royce suggested that we just pick up in Dripping Springs, drive to Austin and then come back the next day to ride from Dripping Springs to Cedar Creek (below Austin). It all sound kinda crazy, but for various reasons this is what we were having to do. I wanted to ride into Austin, which would be 105 mile ride. My ability to make that ride would be dependent on the weather, on this day the wind would be the deciding factor. I rode on Hwy 290 for the entire route. This was not necessarily the most scenic route, but we were having to resort to efficiency at this point.

Great ride today. Very wild and woolly country. Met a fellow biker (74 years young) on a trip from Prescott Arizona to Rosarito Mexico. What an inspiration. Have not ridden my recumbent for awhile and I might have pushed just a bit further than I should have. There is a big difference in the muscles used on the recumbent vs. the diamond frame. We will be dropping down into Phoenix and staying in Apache Junction tomorrow. 90 mile push. Should see some pretty country. Thanks for all of your love and support. This is a once in a life time adventure for us and we are loving every minute of it. One tends to become rather introspective when you spend many many hours on a bike, much of it by yourself. Have not discovered the meaning of life yet....but will keep you posted.
