Langtry to Del Rio

Langtry to Del Rio

66 miles

We left our little safe haven in Sanderson early in the morning so that Royce could drop me off near Langtry. It seems kind of silly to have to do the driving that we did. The constant storm track that was over the area had left us no other choice than to alter our original plans. These options were all things we had calculated into our trip planning. I was hoping the wind would not greet me so early in the morning. I knew that my friend the bumpy pavement would be there and there was my friend the wind already blowing with vigor at 7 am. Oh well off  I pedaled. I was looking forward to Seminole Canyon and Amistad Lake. There was a drizzling fog over the area that made it difficult to a lot of the sights, but I did get to see plenty of nice sights. I thought it was interesting that I was riding to Del Rio in the fog. It reminded me of my bike rides on the North Coast of California to a community there called Rio Dell. I never really thought I would be riding in fog in Texas along the Mexico Border.   Royce rode the middle portion of the ride with me.No, Royce did not wander off to Mexico again. We were both happy to put Sanderson and the long stretches of windy desert behind us, as it felt like we were stuck in a storm tunnel. Amistad lake was impressive in size and it was fun riding on the long bridge that crossed over it.  Royce passed me in the car while I was riding across the bridge. He was one of 3 vehicles that crossed the bridge while on was on it. Royce stopped on the other side of the bridge so that I could have my last snack before riding into Del Rio. I have become accustomed to an apple with nut butter on it when I am within 15 miles to the end of the ride. This usually only happens if our days events make it convenient for Royce to provide the opportunity. I have been known to carry the apple and nut butter with me. Since the rain rides have begun my pack space has been consumed more by clothing than food. Next to the bridge was an impressive train trestle.  The railroad is very active in Texas. This is something I am not accustomed to seeing in Northern California.

Love the Train Trestle to the right
